Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold described the layoffs as “changes” being made to “ensure resources are aligned with long-term strategic goals and location strategy.” According to Meta, they intend to “relocate some teams” to other locations. In theory, they are “working hard to find other opportunities for affected employees.”
A former Meta employee told TechCrunch that some employees were offered different positions with new contracts. If they did not accept, severance packages were proposed. One of the affected individuals was Jane Manchun Wong, a software engineer who had been working at Threads since 2023. According to her post on the app, she was still “trying to process” the layoff and was looking for work in software engineering/security.
